Eclipse No.1

Let me introduce to you the first installment in the Eclipse series. This series embarks upon my visual interpretation of the battle between depression and mania, a condition which is typical to bipolar disorder sufferers. Those of you who want to understand more about this disease can look here and here.

On Design...

I truly believe that any design should come from the soul of the designer. The design should reflect its nature, whether to solve a problem, to delight an audience or to enhance one's life. Good design is difficult to achieve. It takes discipline and a lot of will-power to use the grey matter in the designer's head. It's so much easier to find 'inspirations' from design books and the web, but to me, this practise is not designing. I believe that a design is only suitable for the exact purpose it's made for. And no other design can fit in and be called a successful one.

I also believe that to have a great design, a synergy between the designer and the client is paramount. A designer could always guess what the client wants but if the client is able to express him or herself and articulate the things that he or she wants with the design, the final product would be totally wonderful. In my experience as a designer, I always found out that clients who knew what they want would help me produce the best designs.

Koleq #5

1986 was my best year in MCKK  :)  Being a fifth former… I felt like a King. Even though there were the A-Level students at that time, I didn't care. Form 5 was King. I was the prefect for Dorm 22. Dorm 22, or what my batchmates called the Club Med (I still don't know WHY they chose this name), was at the West Wing, fronting the tennis courts.

It was my SPM year, but guess what, I didn't study! I filled my life with the Prefects Board, the Art Club and of course, the Photography Club. Sports? Nah… I was equivalent to today's 'kapal layar.' 1985 was uneventful, but 1986 had too many events! No wonder I didn't 'score' in my SPM.

Anyway, Koleq #5 is my rendition of my life in MCKK in the year 1986. Bright and fun. The darkness was reserved at the edges, a fringe in my life then  :)
